“With his heart buried in secrets, I’m sure I will never really be able to have him as a whole.”
Bury Me With Lies was an all-consuming, heart pounding, twisted, edge of your seat conclusion to the Twin Lies Duet.
The plot for the Twin Lies Duet is insane. It’s twisted, it’s suspenseful, it’s down right DIRTY and I freaken LOVE it. Kiss Me With Lies was my favourite book of 2019 and I was so desperate to see how Mackenzie and Baz’ story was going to end.
Bury Me With Lies was a roller coaster of emotion, It picks up right after the cliffhanger ending we were left on in Kiss Me With Lies. Mackenzie is hurt, confused and terrified, while Baz is as far as Mackenzie is concerned, dead to her.
“Mackenzie Wright isn’t a gold digger. No, she is far worse. She is a scorned woman with a vendetta. She is a woman looking for justice for her twin sister. And in doing so, she thinks she has found her culprits. But she is wrong. She has to be.”
The passion and tension between Baz and Mackenzie continues in book 2 and amps up to a whole new level with more emotion involved than there was in the first book. The way this connection between Baz and Mackenzie is written bleeds off the pages, the tension is palpable. I felt physical pain like cracks through my heart for both these characters during this duet, the betrayal they both experience and feel is like a physical entity invading there lives.
“Baz King is the kind of man you can’t help but notice in the room, and that’s exactly what’s happening at the moment. He is the only thing I can focus on. He is water in the Sahara Desert after days without a single drop. He is rain in a drought. He is the glimmering stars next to the moon. He is the very air you breathe—essential.”
Baz is one of my favourite male characters, I loved him in Kiss Me With Lies and feel for him even more in Bury Me With Lies, he’s cold, calculating, incredibly intelligent and then at the same time so warm and caring. He’s the epitome of all my alpha male dreams.
Mackenzie is a contradiction and an incredibly interesting character to read and experience. She makes some smart decisions and then some really stupid ones. She gets herself into these crazy situations that are so frustrating to read but fit perfectly in with her character and plot.
Bury Me With Lies was action packed and equally driven by the character development. The character development for these two characters is second to none. They both start out as such damaged characters, Mackenzie more so, and grow and understand each other with every predicament hey find themselves in. The character and plot development were impeccably written and had me captivated from the very first page. I was so desperate for answers and so desperate for this duet to never end.
Bury Me With Lies was a difficult book for me to finish, purely because I didn’t want to actually finish it, I love that feeling of being stuck in limbo and not having answers. Cliff hangers are my JAM. I stayed up late every night reading as slow as possible, flicking back to the beginning of chapters to reread them before I moved on, highlighting pages and pages of quotes. I am obsessed with and so blown away by Selena’s style of writing, the intricate details throughout the duet are phenomenal and what I believe makes this story so unique and damn addictive. I love reading a book where I’m on the edge of my seat guessing whats going to happen next or how it will end and even more when my theories are completely wrong! I thought I had everything figured out so many times and each time I was completely thrown through a loop with the next reveal! There was absolutely no way I would've seen coming the many twists and turns of this duet.
“When you love someone, it’s easy to fool yourself into believing it’s hate instead. They’re two sides of the same coin, both one and the same, and the two emotions are starting to blur together for me.”
I’m completely addicted to Selena’s style of writing and can’t wait to devour everything else she’s written. And I REALLY REALLY hope that we get Marcus’ story! I’m also curious to read Vincent’s story as well. The Twin Lies Duet is an experience, one that is best experienced blind.
