REVIEW: In Fury Lies Mischief by Amo Jones

March 9, 2020

She was everything that I wanted.

He was everything that I despised.

Until she wasn’t.

Until he wasn’t.

Killian Cornellii was a walking calamity. He reached inside of me and touched every single inch of my ruined soul, but he didn’t just touch it. He caressed, petted, and captivated it. He tailored me to fit into the palm of his hands. The same hands that possess so much cruelty, were the very same that comforted me.

I thought I knew him.

He thought he knew me.

This isn’t a fairy tale, or some achingly beautiful story about two soul mates who instantly fall irrevocably in love with each other.

This is a story about a love so painful, so rich, that it destroys everything and everyone around it.

Including ourselves.

Midnight Mayhem is the platform to which Killian performs his tricks on, but the greatest trick wouldn’t come from him.

It would come from me.

Tricksters don’t have hearts.

They just pretend that they do.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

This Book. This Book is INCREDIBLE. This whole series is mind blowing! Amo Jones’ writing is like a drug, once you start reading her words you can’t stop, you can’t slow your reading down and you can’t help but devour EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. I highlighted countless quotes through this book and have been reading over and over them since i finished the last page!

“Sometimes the most vicious ghosts that haunt you are those in your memories.”

In Fury Lies Mischief was an addictive read, I found myself drifting to my kindle app, flipping pages during every single spare second I had. I’m always blown away by the direction that Amo takes with her story lines and character development. Her books are a mind screw, you can never ever predict what direction she’ll take. One of the things I love about Amo’s writing is how she draws you in with the need for answers and gives them to every other character, except in this instance Saskia, so you can feel exactly how frustrating it must be to be left in the dark with questions like her main characters are. She has this talent for making you feel consumed by her words and like you’re in the story. The whole world fades away when you’re absorbed in her writing.

“Killian’s eyes come to mine. My heartbeat flips around in my chest as my cheeks flush with heat. “I’ll ask you again, Little Dragon.”

He licks his lips and I subconsciously draw my tongue out to wet my own.

“Do villains have hearts?”

I fell in love with the Trickster. He was all the things I love in a jaded playboy and then some. Killeen was all consuming, aggressive, cocky and dangerous. When he loved, he loved with an all consuming passion that left no doubt in your mid how he felt about you.

“His eyes sparkle in mischief. That’s Killian. Mischief. Only his mischief is a ploy to distract you, because below that surface lies fury. I’ve seen an inkling of it exposed a few times now, and I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of his wrath—ever.”

I loved Saskia! She is probably my most favourite Amo Jones, female character ever. I connected with her instantly, her confidence and then lack there of at times were so relatable. The way she reacted to different characters and situations was so real and understandable. She was just a normal girl trying to find her place in the world and stand out in that place when she had it.

Saskia and Killan were intoxicating together, they brought out the best and worst in each other. They connected on a deep level that you could feel in your heart through Amo’s words. They drew me even further into the Midnight Mayhem World with the passion that was evident between them.

“You can’t treat everyone the same because not everyone deserves all of you.”

THIS QUOTE IS EVERYTHING.

And that last chapter?! HOLY SH!T. I can’t wait to see what we’re in for!!

Start the Midnight Mayhem Series with...

My name is Dove Hendry.

𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘹𝘵𝘰𝘯.

I was captured by darkness.

𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴…

They groomed me for Midnight Mayhem. Like a trained possession, weak against their control.

𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘵...

But Midnight Mayhem was the stained glass that concealed a very dark culture.

𝘈 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧.

The Brothers of Kiznitch come in fours, and they’re not happy about me being hustled into their acts.

𝘖𝘳 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦? 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘭, 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘥. 𝘈 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯…

Mind-tricks.

Stunts.

Deceit.

𝘗𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳.

But there’s something uglier that has been haunting me for years upon years. So ugly that I have never seen it’s face. I never had to. I’d hear his whispers through my internal screams, feel his shadow brush against my nightmares. He was my the monster that tormented me.

𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘥…

When I started Midnight Mayhem, his presence faded.

His whispers were silenced.

His shadow dissolving without a trace.

I wondered why that was.

𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨...
