“We busy ourselves trying not to be lonely, trying to find purpose in careers, and lovers, and children, but at any moment, those things we work so hard to possess could be taken from us.”

The Wives was a twisted suspenseful read that had me completely on edge the entire time I was reading it. Although it took me a couple of chapters to get into the story, once I was into it, I was compulsively turning pages as fast as possible trying to work out the twist.

I fell in love with Tarry Fisher's style of writing during F*ck Love and have followed her and her writing ever since. I thought The Wives was a step away from Tarryn's usual writing style, It was unpredictable and unexpected.

The Wives is written in first person from the Point of View of Thursday who is Seth's second wife. The arrangement that Thursday has with Seth is that she doesn't know the identity of his other two wives who are Seth and Thursday refer to as Monday and Tuesday. The arrangement has worked until Thursday finds out something that completely shifts her world.

Tarryn Fisher has a unique writing style that captivates and keeps your attention until the last page and The Wives was no different. I was so intrigued by the concept of The Wives and was invested in Thursday getting her truth and feeling secure and confident in her marriage with Seth.

With each chapter of The Wives, you learn one more secret about Thursday and Seth's situation and the arrangement they have with the other wives, yet with each chapter you'e left with more questions. There's a turning point where you think you'll get more answers but are thrown through a loop with so much information. While I did find The Wives compelling and thrilling I did also work out the twist which I was frustrated at myself for because I love surprises and suspense so much!

“But the truth is that the heart’s desire is a mere current against the tide of nurture and nature. You can spend your whole life swimming against it and eventually you’ll get tired and the current of genes and upbringing will pull you under.”
