My entire body jerked at that comment, striking too close to home for comfort. “Let go of me.”
He held my gaze as he slowly lifted one finger after another, releasing my wrist. That bitter knot was back in my throat. The Prince had let go and his heavy lashes lowered, shielding his powerful gaze, but I swore I could still feel it. “My apologies,” he murmured. “That was uncalled for.”
A feather could’ve knocked me over right then. He was apologizing? The Prince? “Yeah, it was.” I swallowed hard, taking a step back from him.
“Even if it is true,” he added.
“Wow. Way to ruin an apology,” I muttered. “Not that you probably even know why you just apologized.”
“I do. It hurt you. Those words.”
“What? You can smell that, too?”
Those heavy lashes lifted, and the intensity of his gaze pierced me. Suddenly I thought back to the day I woke up in the hospital, to those eyes. “I can sense many things.”
I had the distinct impression that he was talking about earlier, when I was thinking about the dream I had. And boy, didn’t that make me want to crawl up in a hole somewhere. At that moment, I made a mental note to legit not feel anything when I was around him or any other fae.
One eyebrow, several shades darker than his golden hair, lifted.
“Wait. Can you guys read minds?” I asked, voice hushed and thinking I didn’t know nearly as much about the fae as I thought I did.
“We don’t need to.”
Relief hit me, but it quickly faded when his words cycled back through my head. We don’t need to. Meaning picking up on our emotions probably gave them enough insight on what our thoughts were.
“Well…” I held the folder closer to my chest. “That’s freaky.”
His lips twitched.
“And I need to go.” I started to turn once more, ordering myself not to run out of the lobby like it was on fire. But I stopped, facing him again. “I do care about these younglings. I will find them or I will find out what happened to them.”
The Prince inclined his head. A moment passed and then he nodded. Thinking this super awkward face to face was now, thankfully, over, I started to turn away again.
Desperately ignoring how the way he said my name made me think of stormy summer nights, I faced him, even though common sense screamed that I shouldn’t. I just couldn’t help myself. It wasn’t a compulsion. It was apparently really bad self-control. My wry gaze flickered over his face, and I bit back a sigh. He was the strongest, the deadliest of his kind, and that knowledge did nothing to dampen my appreciation of his masculine beauty.
“The red hair was a nice touch, but I prefer it this way.”
And then with those parting words, he turned and stalked off, leaving me standing there knowing one thing only.
The Prince knew it was me Saturday night.
“Why do you call me that? Sunshine?”
“Because I saw you smile once and it was like the sun finally rising.”
WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED.
I’m shook ya’ll! That seriously cannot be it. That absolutely cannot be how Brighton and Caden’s story ends. I will not and do not accept this! I DESPERATELY need more!
I’m a HUGE Jennifer Armentrout fan. I love her, I’m obsessed with her words and have been for as long as I can remember! I started The Wicked Trilogy the very second that Wicked hit my kindle and I’ve been obsessed with this series since then. Wicked was where we first met Brighton and Caden and we were lucky enough to continue to get glimpses of them throughout the trilogy.
When I first read the blurb for The Prince I was so excited. I loved both characters in the Wicked Trilogy and couldn’t wait to get more of them. However I never considered that they could ever be together. I was anxiously waiting to get my hands on The Prince so I could see how Jennifer Armentrout made this work! And gah did she ever make this work!
The Prince picks up two year’s after the events that concluded the Wicked Trilogy. The world for the Order and Fae has changed drastically. The effects from events that took place in the original trilogy and afterwards have left scars that may or may not be healed. While it’s short in length it’s not short in angst, action and character development. I’m always apprehensive about reading Novellas because it seems hard to write so much into something that’s not a full length novel. I feel like Novellas are either done very right or terribly wrong. The Prince was done very right! The character development and the development of the story were perfectly timed and suited the overall feel of the novella and the Wicked Trilogy as a whole.
From the moment ‘The Prince’ arrived in Wicked, I knew there was a story there. I never would have guessed what would've happened in Torn and Brave but was so glad that it turned out the way it did. I’ve always had a fascination with him.
‘The Prince’ or Caden was a completely different character in The Prince to what he was in Wicked. He was guarded and secretive and downright evil at times but in The Prince he was the opposite. A little sarcastic, a lot damaged, a ton sexual and I absolutely loved getting this side of him and learning more about him. He was compassionate towards Brighton and very tortured by his past actions and I’m incredibly fascinated and obsessed with him.
Brighton was a quiet character in the Wicked Trilogy. A little mousey but very intelligent. She’d had a difficult upbringing but still remained positive. The Brighton we get in The Prince is completely different. She’s strong in more ways than one, she’s still intelligent but also not afraid to stand up for herself and what she believes in. I loved Brighton, I loved her character development and I loved seeing these different sides of her. The reactions she has to situations were so accurate to what could or would happen in everyday life. She was true to herself from beginning to end.
Overall The Prince was a great Novella and a great introduction to Brighton and Caden’s relationship. It left us with one hell of a cliff hanger that requires answers as soon as possible! While this would be a great introduction to Jennifer Armentrout’s writing I would recommend reading the Wicked Trilogy prior to this Novella.
“You’re not a ghost. You never could be one, not when you burn as brilliant as the sun.”

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.
Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
