REVIEW: The Chase by Elle Kennedy

August 8, 2018

Everyone says opposites attract.

And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.

And that his best friend has a crush on me.

And that I just moved in with them.

Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?

He knows where to find me.

Gah. I absolutely adored this book! 😍

Elle Kennedy is the QUEEN of Collage Age Sports Romances! I fell in love with her writing style in The Deal and even more so when she was writing The Royals Series as Erin Watt. From the moment I knew The Chase was coming I was so excited to dive back into the Briar World of Hockey.

It was a little bit angsty, so very sexual and a heck of a lot of fun! The Chase was addictive, once I started I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. The Chase centres on Summer Heyward-Di Laurentis, Dean’s little sister and Colin Fitzgerald, current Briar Hockey playing nerd-jock. Summer has had a crush on Fitzy since she first met him and Fitzy has spent every moment since that time trying to forget Summer’s gorgeous body and mile long legs. Hence the angst!

The Chase starts off with Summer moving to Briar college and having a run in with the Sorority whom she’s supposed to be moving in with. As you’d expect drama happens and Dean comes to Summer’s rescue while inviting her out to a New Year’s Eve Party at the same time. It’s while at the party that sparks start flying between Summer and Fitzy. Is Fitzy the stuck up jock she thought he was? And is Summer the flighty and drama fuelled Sorority girl that Fitzy thinks she is?

I find it unsettling. Silence is not my friend. Silence forces you to examine your own mind. To face the thoughts you pushed aside during the day or the worries you hoped would go away, the secrets you tried to keep.

- Summer

I absolutely adored The Chase for so many different reasons. Summer was a beautiful and flawed character who had some tough things she constantly had to deal with that made her so relatable and Fitzy was an intelligent and talented jock nerd that you couldn’t help but fall for.

She brings out a growly, primal side of me I hadn’t known existed until she showed up and started driving me batshit crazy. And…I frickin’ love it.

- Fitzy

Elle Kennedy never fails to write relatable and real characters who you can’t help but fall for and want to be or want to be with. The character development in The Chase was written so perfectly to match the development of the story. There were some fantastic side characters that we were introduced to from the Briar Hockey Team and also the Harvard Hockey Team as well as the coaches daughter Brenna and I’m so very desperate for the next book in the Briar U series!

Brenna orders a coffee, black. I order a mint tea with lemon. Somehow that sums up this friendship of ours. Appearance wise, I’m all about light colors and nude makeup, while Brenna prefers smoky eyes and black everything. In terms of personality, I’m more carefree, she’s edgier, but we’re both a little nuts. It’s a hoe-mance for the ages.
