REVIEW: Blood Type by K.A. Linde

A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.

For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.

In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.

Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.

For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.

“How boring your life must be to have no one fill you with passion and make your emotions run high. I’ll take my chances with the monster over complacency.” I’ve been waiting for a great new Paranormal series for what feels like years! Paranormal Romance has always been my go to genre. It’s where my love of reading started and where I always find myself drifting back too. It’s been a really long time since I found a new series to start and a really long time since I’ve enjoyed a Vampire book as much as the Sookie Stackhouse, Guild Hunters and Night Huntress Series! Blood Type was my first K.A. Linde book and the first in her new paranormal trilogy. As soon as I read the blurb I was intrigued with the premise and couldn’t wait to see what direction this story took. Set in the future where Vampires essentially rule the world, Blood Type is written in the POV of Reyna Carpenter, our female protagonist. Reyna is a 21 year old living with her 2 older brothers and trying to find not only a way to survive but a way to live. Blood Type begins with Reyna making one of the hardest decisions of her life. “Millions of people out of jobs in one fell swoop, and then out of the gloom and doom came a knight on a white horse to save them all. An end to the fear of what lurked in the darkness. An end to being hunted for their blood. An end to the economic struggles entirely—so long as you gave up the very thing they had hunted humans for.” Eric Northman was my first Vampiric love and Beckham Anderson is sitting not too far behind him when it comes to Paranormal Romance. Beckham has your typical vampiric qualities, possessive, controlling & secretive. All my favourite things! “The flames engulfed her heart as surely as they were about to consume his body. Without warning, he crushed his lips to hers in a fierce, possessive kiss. “I will.” And then he disappeared into the burning building.” Reading Blood Type, you could tell it was the beginning of a series. It left you with so many questions and only a couple of answers that resulted in even more questions. The pace of the story was quite quick and probably faster paced than most contemporary romance novels but I find that the faster pace always works in the Paranormal genre. There’s always so much world building involved that you need to grasp which speeds up relationship building. The world building for Blood Type was very well written and easy to keep track of. It was a really great straight forward concept that didn’t end up convoluted like some world building can. Beckham and Reyna have a very complicated relationship which feels very much one sided during the first 70% of Blood Type but worked really well to develop the plot and Reyna’s development. It created a lot of secrecy on Beckham’s side which kept me turning pages as fast as I could. I really enjoyed reading Blood Type, it was definitely a building book for the characters and plot and I’m super excited to see what happens next for Reyna, Beckham and all those sneaky side characters that made some interesting and troubling appearances! I’m a sucker for a good cliffhanger and Blood Type gave me that goose bump inducing, sitting on the edge of my seat feeling and left me desperate for Blood Match. I think I’m going to be stuck in that suspenseful feeling I love until it hits my Kindle! Blood Type was a suspenseful 4.5 star read and the wait for Blood Match is going to be a crazy ride.

The series continues with...
