Oh Easton, What goes through that pretty head of yours?
Fallen Heir is told solely in Easton's POV, and let me tell you, it's a journey! Maybe even a journey of self discovery? Without really knowing it, Easton is crying out for help. Every drink, every bad grade, every callous comment and stupid act is a cry for help. And in true Easton style there's a whole lot of that and then some.
Fallen Heir is the 4th book in The Royals series and having read the first 3, this shouldn't be read as a standalone. Not only are we getting 2 Easton books but to truely appreciate Fallen Heir, I'd highly recommend reading at least Paper Princess, Broken Prince and Twisted Palace. Not having read 3.5, Tarnished Crown I can't comment on that one but to get more background you should definitely read it as well!
Fallen Heir picks up at the start of Easton's senior year. Reed is making a name for himself in college leaving Ella as the Head Royal at Astor Park and Easton the enforcer. The first chapter sets up the premise of how Fallen Heir is going to go and in true Erin Watt style kicks off with drama.
Enter Hartley. She's the unknown. In a sea of familiar faces her's is one Easton doesn't recognise and he's instantly intrigued. Hartley catches Easton is a comprising position and from that moment she's already made her mind up about the type of person Easton is. One she wants nothing to do with.
"In the quiet, you can hear the heartbeat, You can also hear it break."
I love Erin Watt's style of writing, it reminds me of Movies like Cruel Intentions, 10 Things I Hate About You and Mean Girls which are some of my favourites! It's like Gossip Girl for the page! Drama, Intrigue, speculation and soooo many surprises! There's no guessing what's coming next and no limit to the drama that follows The Royals everywhere!
Fallen Heir is the first book in this genre that I've read solely in a Male POV and I have to say, I really liked it! I'm glad that Fallen Heir was written solely in Easton's POV, I think if it had been written in a dual POV with Hartley as well it would've taken away from the lessons that Easton needed to learn and to experience him grow and learn as he navigated the situations he was getting himself into.
While fallen Heir is a great addition to the Royals series, I'm still firmly in the #TeamReed camp! And there definitely was not enough Reed for my liking. I definitely missed the scenes about Reed in Ella's POV. No one describes a hot boy taking off his shirt like Erin does.
