I respect the hell out of Kylie Scott. She has this incredible way of writing the most honest and REAL characters. Every character is flawed in there own way, be it looks, actions or personality. None of her characters are ever perfect. and thats why I LOVE her characters and her writing so much!
I first found Kylie through her Stage Dive Series which I loved. Everyone went gaga over David and Mal while I was more of a Jimmy girl. There's something about a tortured hero that speaks to me. I really liked her Stage Dive Series, the storylines and characters are so farfetched and addictive. It's rock star royalty at its finest.
But I really became a huge Kylie fan when I read Dirty. Real, raw and romantic. I thought there was no way she could top Vaughan. Coz like he was Vaughan! But then Joe Collins stepped into my life....
Twist is written in Alex Parks POV who comes into Twist like a tornado! She thrusts herself into the lives of all the characters and you can't help but fall in love with her. Alex is by far one of my most favourite female characters in any romance that I've read. I relate to her so much. Her honesty, her fears, her insecurities, everything. What I love most about Kylie's female characters is that because they're so real, they make you feel real. They make you feel more confident. If these characters can get through everything they go through then why can't I? Kylie characters build confidence and strength in you with every word you read.
"A cute, perky waitress appeared, smile stretched wide at the sight of Joe. A curious gaze looked me over, then dismissed me. I swear, it took the woman no more than a nanosecond to decide I wasn’t any competition for my disheveled, hirsute, tattooed companion. Little did she know I’d always thought Jean Grey in X-Men got it right, Cyclops was a way better bet than Wolverine. All of that testosterone and bad attitude mixed with a scruffy face and general give no shits about his appearance was not so wonderful. In all honesty, I’d take cool, calm, and well kept over anger management and body hair issues any day of the week. Joe was all hers."
When I read Dirty I was so engrossed with Vaughan and Lydia that I didn't pay too much attention to the secondary characters so going into Twist I couldn't really remember what sort of person Joe was so I was going in blind. Not only does Kylie write inspiring female characters but she can also write the hell out of a male character. Joe Collins came into Twist in a pretty twisty way (Pun totally intended). He has secrets that will hurt people. But Joe is the biggest cuddly teddy bear around, a gentle giant. A lumbersexual giant! He's a wee bit cocky, totally funny and loveable and dedicated. He's the good boy of the bunch.
"Lumbersexuals were clearly the worst. Truth was, I’d never been especially into beards. At best, I’d been indifferent. Now, however, I outright despised them. Horrible hairy frames for lying lips and duplicitous tongues, that’s what they were. Loathsome whiskery bastards. Burn them all in a fire."
I truly enjoyed reading Twist, the moment I started it I was completely engrossed in Alex and Joe's story. I couldn't put it down. The storyline moved at a perfect pace and the sexual tension she created was off the charts! Alex and Joe had fantastic chemistry and banter and had me in constant fits of laughter with there actions and words.
"Water dripped off his beard, soaking into the T-shirt already plastered against his body. I suspected he was carrying off the storm-drenched look better than I was. Bastard."
Kylie writes characters better then anybody, she writes characters you can relate to and situations you can most definitely find yourself in and I will forever be a Kylie fan.
