REVIEW: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover

"Sometimes the one who loves you is the one who hurts you the most"

Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up - she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life suddenly seems almost too good to be true. Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan - her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened. With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price. This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter.

“I think about how sometimes, no matter how convinced you are that your life will turn out a certain way, all that certainty can be washed away with a simple change in tide.” I haven't read a single review of It Ends With Us. Nor did I read the blurb. When Colleen Hoover was promoting It Ends With Us, at one point she said you needed to go into this book blind. This goes against everything that I generally believe in as a mood reader. I could spend hours reading different blurbs finding my next read. But I was a good bookworm, I did what I was told and I went in blind. I finished this book over a month ago and I still cant get these beautiful words out of my head. This book rocked me to my absolute core, It was a journey that I wasn’t expecting to take. I’ve written two review’s for It Ends With Us. They didn’t do it justice. This review won’t do it justice. There is SO much I could say about how phenomenal and incredibly well written It Ends With Us is. I could tell you about what an emotional roller coaster it was. I could give you intimate details about every emotion that I felt and every thought I had while reading it but I won’t. Those emotions and those thoughts are yours to experience. What I will tell you is how important this book is it. It Ends With Us breaks the mould of everyday romance, It breaks you. It shatters every opinion you have ever had about the specific situations that Lily is thrown in too and makes you rethink everything you’ve ever been taught. For me, It Ends With Us opened my eyes to how judgemental I was about the acts that occur in this book. Its hard for me to admit that as I see myself as quite a non-judgemental person but this particular situation has always struck a cord with me. “I feel like everyone fakes who they really are, when deep down we’re all equal amounts of screwed up. Some of us are just better at hiding it than others.” The characters in this beautiful heart wrenching book are some of the most complex I have read and I was so thoroughly impressed with how the character development in the story played out. Each and every character was completely different by the end of the book. I’ve never been through what Lily has been through but I connected with her on such a deep level that I felt what she felt. I understood why she made the decision’s she did. And I felt guilty. I felt guilty for all my past judgements and I felt guilty for never understanding why people made the decisions they did. “There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.” This book is incredible and I wish there were more words in the dictionary to describe it. It Ends With Us is a 6 Star read, It is one of the bravest books I’ve ever read. Colleen Hoover is the most talented author in this genre, she is the epitome of this genre. An she is one of the most amazing human beings on this planet. She’s good people. The words she creates always bring out more emotion in me then any other author I read. She’s an automatic one-click and if you still haven’t one-clicked It Ends With Us do it now. This will be the most important book you read this year. “Be that girl, Lily. Brave and bold.” At the end of the book you can read a note from Colleen that explains where this heart wrenching story came from. Read it. If you're concerned about reading this book due to the plot Colleen Hoover has said you can comment in her group and an Admin will pm you and advise about the plot.
